Izaac was sitting in my lap while I read, and his itty-bitty open hand appeared on my page, like a puppet appearing before an audience, and began traveling back and forth, his hand closing then opening again, clawing and tapping the book. I paused to watch this wonder, thinking to myself that not even a few weeks ago this hand was purposeless in it’s motions and now it is reaching and touching. Tears came to my eyes as I kissed the soft, little fingers, praying never to forget this moment. Times like these are fleeting and that makes them all the more precious when we pause for them.
We’ve recently discovered Izaac’s tickle spot and it’s wonderfully entertaining coaxing chuckles. He is ticklish on the back of his arms and upper back, so every time we take his shirt off he squirms, smiles and giggles.
He loves to be held over the shoulder or facing out with an arm across his belly, and his head turns in choppy movements from side to side, occasionally drooping down to rest then springing up again. When someone holds his hands, he stands on his 12 inch legs and waggles his head back and forth like a grown man from India.
If he wants to see something far away he arches his eyebrows and pops his eyes open as if entering a staring contest.
I have to say that Izaac is irresistible, especially now that he’s getting rolls on his arms and legs and it seems none of us can keep our hands off of him – we’re either talking to him, reading to him, kissing his cheeks, petting him on the head or trying to make him smile. I’m sure I could get way more cleaning done than I do, but why do that when I’ve got an adorable baby to kiss and squish!
Izaac is an absolute joy – ever-smiling, sweet and patient – and I can’t imagine our family without him.
Oh my goodness, what beautiful moments you have as a mother! I love reading your blog. Thanks for sharing it, Aubrey! 🙂 I wish I could meet Izaac. Missing all of you!
